Project Need

This section of Manhattan-Monee Road was recently jurisdictionally transferred from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) to Will County. The Will County Division of Transportation (County) is evaluating existing transportation issues and needs to be addressed with this improvement project.

Project Purpose

Manhattan-Monee Road will be improved to meet current design standards and consistency with adjacent roadway improvement projects.

Phase I – Preliminary Engineering 2025-2026

  • Evaluate existing geometry and drainage, traffic, and crash data

  • Define the Purpose and Need of the Project

  • Identify and compare alternatives

  • Select a preferred alternative

  • Adjust the preferred alternative to avoid or minimize impacts to utilities and environmental resources

  • Identify right-of-way

Phase II – Design 2026-2027

  • Detail design

  • Coordinate utility relocations

  • Acquire right-of-way (fyi, misspelling aquire on BLA page for this)

  • Obtain environmental permits

Phase III – Construction TBD

  • Construction start is dependent on plan readiness, land acquisition, and funding availability
